Elections for all 251 seats in the Republican National Assembly and for the President of the Republic were held on September 14, 2025. They were the first held under the new constitution enacted on August 31, and the first democratic elections held after the July Coup. In the Presidential elections, the Forward Party nominated Prime Minister Joe Biden’s Husband, while the Minister of Records, William F. Galvin, left the party to run as an independent candidate. The DPP nominated Michelle Wu. In the Presidential election, independent candidate William F. Galvin narrowly defeated Michelle Wu and Joe Biden’s Husband and became President after running on a centrist and technocratic platform. In the parliamentary election, each party ran on their own list. The ruling Forward Party won the election, earning around 30% and 82 seats, and was given the first mandate to form a government. The Democratic Progressive Party won second place, with 22% and 62 seats. The constitutional bloc, led by FWD along with the KMT, MO-U, and R, won a combined 141 seats, gaining a majority over the anti-constitutional bloc (DPP, MO-FR, OP, AfD, RPRL), which won 110 seats. A coalition led by the Forward Party and including the Kuomintang and Momentum-Unity was formed.
