The Republic is a constitutional semi-presidential Republic. Founded sometime in 2022, the Republic today boasts a complete constitution, a President elected every two months, and a parliament elected monthly. The Republic is a multi-party democracy, with several different political parties vying for power. Its capital and largest city is Republic City.

History[edit | edit source]

Origins[edit | edit source]

The Republic came into being in late 2022, most likely November or December. Not much is recorded from that time, however. The first two political parties were the Kuomintang and the Democratic Progressive Party. There is also mention of a Pragmatism Party, Reunification Party, and an Independent Party, although not much is known of these early parties. The Republic originally had a very simplistic government, with election being held for the Parliament with only seat counts being released, not vote percentages. In addition, there were no individuals, only political parties.[1]

Dormancy, revival, and development[edit | edit source]

The Republic was mostly dormant for two years until 2024. The first cabinet following the return to activity was the May 2024 Cabinet. The first election, meanwhile, was the May 2024 snap election. An anti-relationist terror group which split from the KMT called the National Revival Party was known exist during this time. New Dawn emerged as a political force during this time, leading during the May, June, and July 2024 cabinets, and being a junior partner during the August 2024 Cabinet. The electoral system remained mostly unchanged from the original iteration of the Republic in 2022 until October. Election results were only announced as seat numbers, which were always multiples of 5. New Dawn collapsed after August, and the Republic became a two-party system under the left-wing DPP and right-wing KMT.[1][2]

This changed in October of 2024, when today's Republic began to take shape. The Reform Party became the first 3rd party to win seats since New Dawn collapsed, gaining seats during the October 2024 Cabinet. After that, the October 2024 parliamentary election took place, which was the first election to feature detailed records and vote percentages for parties. In the November 2024 election, the two party system began to fall apart, with five parties entering parliament, including the new far-left Orchid Party. December saw the first Presidential election following a constitutional amendment establishing the office of the president. Chiang Kai-shek was elected president in the runoff. In addition, the December 2024 Cabinet III was the first to feature a specifically named Prime Minister, Eric Chu. Another milestone was reached during the December 2024 parliamentary election, when the first joint lists were created. The left bloc and right bloc each formed their own lists for that election.

January crisis and aftermath[edit | edit source]

The Republic's political history was majorly affected by the January Crisis. New Dawn, which had re-entered parliament on a Relationist platform, split over the future of Relationism. Horizons was formed as a Reformist Relationist party to contrast with New Dawn's Orthodox Relationism. In addition, a centrist liberal party called Momentum was founded. The two new parties ran in the January 2025 Parliamentary elections together under the List for Change.

The next two months saw the Tsai Cabinet I and Tsai Cabinet II, both coalitions of the DPP, MO, and HO. The coalition passed a new constitutional amendment which resulted in the Parliament expanding from 100 seats to 251 seats and Presidential elections being reformed to happen every two months through ranked choice voting. The two-party system, which had degraded in the previous months, was shattered after the April 2025 parliamentary election. Horizons, which had held the Ministry of Relations, oversaw the successful implementation of their Relationist policies. They were rewarded by the people by nearly winning a majority government, winning 45% of the vote. With anti-relationist Reform forming the official opposition, this was the first election where the DPP and KMT won neither first or second place. Horizons dominated the political system for the next two months. Horizons supported the election of Édouard Philippe, who would expand the presence of the President in every-day politics and dominate the Republic's politics for the next several months.

Thursday and Friday events[edit | edit source]

The Thursday Events of May 22, 2025 further shook up the political system and saw the formation of King Von's Grey Wolves, a new populist and centrist party. Six MPs defected to the new party. Howevever, one MP was killed and two arrested (one from the new KVGW, one from Reform, and one from the KMT (party leader Friedrich Merz)), resulting in the May 2025 by-elections, where KVGW won their first seat and Joe Biden's Husband was elected as an independent. Horizons lost its majority, falling 1 seat short.[3]

The political establishment was shattered once again after the Friday Events of May 30, 2025. The Horizons policy of Relationism failed. As a result, a vote of no confidence in the Shetty Cabinet II was filed, which successfully passed. Horizons rapidly collapsed as a party after President Philippe exited the party and formed Dignity, with the motto "Move on.". The new party attracted dozens of Horizons defectors. The new Loyalty to the Revolution bloc was formed by left-wing Horizons MPs who still believed that the current policies could be salvaged. Shetty's Horizons attempted to strike a balancing act between the two concepts.

Re-alignment and formation of KVGW[edit | edit source]

The June 2025 snap parliamentary election was considered a major re-alignment. The Von List led by KVGW and including LRB and ND won the most seats by a large margin. It formed a coalition which also included the DPP and Dignity. Joe Rogan became Prime Minister, leading the Rogan Cabinet I, the aforementioned coalition, and the Rogan Cabinet II, a grand coalition which also included the KMT and Momentum. Manny Escuela won the June 2025 KVGW leadership election and led the party into the July 2025 general election.

The resulting Escuela Cabinet contained KVGW, ND, MO, and D. New Dawn, still an Orthodox Relationist party, was controversially given the Ministry of Relations under party leader Remigijus Žemaitaitis. This resulted in the July Days. President Philippe had formed a plan with the KVGW to prevent Žemaitaitis from implementing his party's goals.

July days, FWD dictatorship, and new Constitution[edit | edit source]

ND launched a secret plot to attempt to implement Orthodox Relationism. After these plans were leaked, mass protests began and the cabinet seemed to be on the verge of collapse. On July 20, 2025, with the support of President Philippe, the Republican Guard launched an assault on the Parliament Building, forcing Prime Minister Escuela to flee into exile in Lithuania. The Guard appointed a non-partisan technocratic junta, which then formed into the Forward Party and drafted a new constitution before the transition to democracy. King Von’s Gray Wolves and New Dawn were both banned, and Momentum split, with the pro-regime faction under party leader Dominic Fritz becoming Momentum-Unity and the opposition faction becoming Momentum-Free Republic.

The August 2025 snap parliamentary election was widely seen to be a sham election, with the Forward Party being the only one allowed to participate. All other political parties were forced into dormancy. After the elections, the Husband Cabinet II was formed. The junta organized a new constitutional referendum on the adoption of their proposed constitution, which narrowly passed. The junta organized a transition to democracy, with the September 2025 general election resulting in a FWD-led government that also included the KMT and MO-U. President Philippe finally left office after the election of William F. Galvin, an independent formerly affiliated with FWD. This government remains in power today.
